A community college education is just as valuable as any other — and in some ways — better. Community college offers students a fast start right into their post-secondary education. There’s a lot to get accomplished in that short time and it can be challenging. But, it does prepare students for the workforce — and for life. Community colleges are affordable and convenient. Being in “the community” students have the flexibility to work and study around their own schedules.
Community colleges, such as SUNY Corning Community College, offer a variety of pathways, such as healthcare, engineering, business, computer sciences and…

Everyone should learn and become skilled in cybersecurity and computer science technology. It’s not just to get work in cybersecurity, although that is an option, but these skills are vital in any profession today.
Why? Because just about every possible career requires the use of computers, software, programs, applications, internet access, databases and data. In order to perform almost any job, it requires skills in all those areas.
So, How Does Training in Cybersecurity Help?
Cybersecurity and computer forensics are skills that are developed by testing, logic, cause and effect, investigation and procedures. These skills can be applied to learning…
The Barker-Karpis gang of the early 1930s was one of the most notorious collections of villains to plague America during the Age of Gangsters. They were a bunch of criminal misfits, drawn together by friendship, family, and a thirst for easy money. The Barker-Karpis Gang was led by either Alvin Karpis or “Ma” Barker (Arizona “Arrie” Donnie Clark aka Kate “Ma” Barker — pick your favorite name) — it depends on which version of the tale is to be believed. At the time of her death-by-federal-agents, at the age of 61 (or so), “Ma” Barker was considered a controlling, domineering…

Friday, October 4, 1957, was a momentous day. Not only did Leave It to Beaver make its broadcast debut, but, at 10:29 p.m. Moscow time, the Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite into space. It was named Sputnik — Russian for “satellite.”
“Taking a leaf from its past, Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, N.Y., has admitted nine coeds after nearly 60 years as a school for men only.”

For much of the 20th century, Clarkson had been considered a “men’s college,”…
Four years ago (August 1, 2016), I submitted an article on open source graphic design tools to opensource.com (supported by Red Hat).
Since then, I have submitted 37 articles, that earned 8,148 “Likes!” Thank you. My articles cover a wide range of open source topics and their impact on work, technology, life and more.
I explored subjects and interviewed open source innovators from Toronto, Ontario to New Haven, Connecticut; from Clinton, New York to Tagish, Yukon.
From graphic design and marketing to desktop apps to left-handed rights; from Star Trek and Jenny Everywhere to death to pets and even underwater…
I needed to create a graphic for a STEM-Health Camp at the community college where I work, Rappahannock Community College, in Virginia.
I tried a few static images, but the graphic needed to show three elements of the camp:
EKG heart rhythm simulation
Here’s how I created the final graphic:
The Coding section was a free video download from Pixabay. I had to convert the MP4 video to a GIF so I could add it to the other GIF elements.
I uploaded the MP4 to EZgif.com and it returned a GIF. However, I needed to convert…
How open source technology is used in the budding cannabis industry
“Bring me some reefers!”
– Ralph, Reefer Madness, 1936
Marijuana cultivation and use can be traced back to about 8000 BC Siberia. It’s medicinal use (cannabis sativa) is thought to begin around 4000 BC. Hemp (cannabis sativa L) has also been used in manufacturing, but does not contain the psychoactive properties of cannabis sativa.

Let’s say you wanted a collection of bookmarks for a particular subject. You could create a folder of each bookmark in your browser and organize them that way.
Or, you can create your own customized bookmark page in HTML. It’s easy — here’s how I did it.
I wanted to keep a collection of presidential campaign sites bookmarked. I selected 12 candidates from both parties to keep track of.
I simply created an HTML document using WordPad (PC).
Historical fiction of a real person. John Ducharme, from St. Lawrence County, New York, fought for the Union during the Civil War, from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to The Wilderness in Orange County, Virginia. He returned to the North Country a hero. But, did he think of himself as a hero? This is his story.
